HISTORICAL: Background of the Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi Congregation

The Congregation of The Little Sisters of St. Francis [LSOSF] was founded in Uganda in 1923 by Mother Mary Kevin. They were founded to take care of the poor and needy people in the society. The institute/congregation of the LSOSF has now gradually expanded and presently the sisters are working in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in order to reach the poor and the needy, which they are called to love and serve.

For easy administration, the Institute of the Little Sisters has been divided into six (6) regions: three in Uganda, two (2) in Kenya and one (1) in Tanzania. The Regions are under the administration of the region Superiors, who are directly accountable to the Superior General and her Council.

The LSOSF work in different fields of social and religious work. The area of involvement therefore include: Working in Religious institutes, education work at all levels, catering, Social work, Secretarial work, agricultural projects, Journeying, taking care of the deaf and dumb, Orphans and the aged people, taking care of refugees and street children, nursing care, and above all rehabilitating the Disabled and helping them in all ways possible so as to live quality life.

VISION: Holistic transformation of self and the world towards the reign of God.

APPRECIATION: On the behalf of the Little Sisters of St. Francis and Kijenge community, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Africa Directo organization for your support. This year on October, we received 1,005.00EUR from your organization in response to our proposed budget for water trench construction. On that time exchange rate was 2,602 which gives us 2,615,010/=Tsh. We used this money for constructing the trench as it was allocated.

IMPACT OF THIS PROJECT: We have succeeded to make water trench, where rain water no longer destroy the environment for the sisters neither the kitchen garden where the sisters get greens for children.
